As November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month I reflect on my journey with Lung Cancer which began just over 3 years ago and would like to share with everyone how much Jenny has helped me through this difficult time.
Before diagnosis I was an extremely fit, healthy 57 year old life long non smoker who attended Jenny's Fitness classes at North Rock daily. I had been going to Jenny's classes for years and made some nice friends - it was a part of my life which I enjoyed so much. Some days I would do a Step class in the morning and a New Body Class in the evening. Most weeks I would attend at least 6 aerobic classes at Jenny's Fitness and usually 2 other physical exercise classes also at North Rocks.
It was Jenny who first noticed that my breathing was not returning to normal after a workout. It was Jenny who suggested I should get a check up. I simply thought I was too old for aerobics and would just cut back on my sessions but Jenny insisted on a medical check up.
I was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer - the final stage. Chemotherapy was my only option for palliative care. I began treatment immediately and it was directly because of my fitness level that I coped so well with what my body had to now endure.
Now after 3 years of continual chemotherapy, I am back at Jenny's Fitness Classes. I still have lung cancer as I am unable to be cured however after 6 different types of chemotherapy, I am doing o.k. I attend classes between chemotherapy, scans, treatments, doctors etc. Jenny allows everyone to work at their own level, always watchful, always encouraging, always motivating and never judgmental of ones ability.
I refer to Jenny as my own personal trainer who inspires me to be strong, healthy, fit and active and I wish to thank her sincerely for her positive attitude and support during my journey. Jenny, you have been my inspiration.
