Consumer Online Forum launched on the Australian Lung Foundation website
Patients, carers and family members in Australia and worldwide can post their messages and provide information and support to one another via our new on line forum.
The online forum is particularly useful to consumers who live in rural or remote areas of Australia or for patients who are not well enough to join a support group.
If you have access to the world wide web, Lung cancer consumers simply go to www.lungnet.com.au and under Patient Support click on Online Forum (Please note you must register on the lungnet website with a valid email address to join the forum).
It would be great to hear your stories of hope - they are very inspirational to others who are travelling a similar road.
Online Forum has a Nurses Door
The online forum has a second "door" for Lung nurses - so that nurses throughout Australia can exchange information and patient care techniques by posting messages to on another.
This initiative may be particularly useful for nurses in rural or remote areas around Australia.
Simply, Go to www.lungnet.com.au and underneath Patient Support click on Online Forum (Please note you must register on the lungnet website with a valid email address to join the forum).
Once you have registered, go to the forum, click on Nurses Forum and then "new thread" and post your message. Nurses might like to post any patient forums or new patient support initiatives their centre is offering on both the nurses forum and the patient forum - you can simply cut and paste the information should it apply to both groups. Your Health Service might offer a breathing technique class or a relaxation class - why not post it on both forums.

Welcome
"Since 2001, the Australian Lung Foundation has
been working hard to raise awareness of, and provide research funding for lung cancer.
The Kylie Johnston Lung Cancer Network is an initiative
of The Australian Lung Foundation which raises money
to help empower people, touched by lung cancer, to live their lives to the fullest. Kylie has done just that!” - William Darbishire, CEO, The Australian Lung Foundation
A TRIBUTE TO KYLIE
On 9 th November 2007 – National Lung Cancer Awareness Day, Kylie Johnston, champion and founder of the Kylie Johnston Lung Cancer Network, passed away after her four and a half year fight to survive lung cancer. Family and loved ones surrounded her at the time of her death.
In mid 2006, Kylie and her husband Nick took part in a challenge to raise awareness and funding for lung cancer - this was a hot air balloon ride over the Simpson Desert . Kylie rose to the occasion and with all her heart and might, achieved success. Not only were awareness and funds raised, but Kylie, during this journey, became a great source of inspiration to a great many Australians.
Following are some words from other patients and carers whose lives, Kylie touched:
“Kylie's memory will live on and more importantly through her enthusiasm and drive, others will be helped”
“She was an inspiration for a lot of us dealing with or having dealt with lung cancer”
“I received emails from Kylie offering so much support and assistance and this I will never forget”.
We were all privileged to know Kylie and to work with her to create this Network. She has left us with a wonderful legacy.
On behalf of The Australian Lung Foundation and the Kylie Johnston Lung Cancer Network, we offer Nick and the Schofer and Johnston families our sincere condolences.
