KJLCN 2010 Lung Cancer Awareness Events
National Lung Cancer Tree Planting Days
2010 was internationally recognised as The Year of the Lung, and as part of The Australian Lung Foundation's awareness activities, 7 Lung Cancer Tree planting Days were held in 6 states and one territory during the months of July and August 2010 to raise awareness about the unacceptable loss of life to lung cancer in Australia and the need for more empathy for our patients and their families.
These commemorative events in each state represented the state statistics in lung cancer deaths. The ACT national planting event was a symbolic planting of 760 plants – one tree representing 10 Australians who die from lung cancer each year ie. 7600 deaths to lung cancer in Australia each year.
Commemorative Tree Planting events were also held in regional areas including Wagga Wagga and Ararat.
